In order to participate in the STEM Minds Virtual Festival you will need to download Zoom video conferencing software. Please review the session descriptions above for a full explanation of whether you will require a laptop/desktop computer or if an iPad/tablet can be used.

All participants are responsible for ensuring that their Zoom display name matches EITHER the child’s name or the parent/guardian’s name. Participants whose Zoom names do not match our registration list will not be permitted to join the session.

In order to ensure you do not experience any delays, we highly recommend double checking your Zoom profile settings well in advance of your session start time.

LEGO Challenge

Become an engineer with LEGO as you participate in a design challenge! Students will learn about strong and stable structures compete in our Tallest Tower challenge!

Required Materials:

  • LEGO
  • LEGO base (optional)

Kathleen Miller from Science Rendezvous

Take science out of the lab and into your living room! Join Katie from Science Rendezvous as she shares insights on how you can explore science at home.

Required Materials:

  • Desktop computer/laptop or iPad/tablet with an internet connection

Hidden Live Virtual Scavenger Hunt

HIDDEN.LIVE is a real-time game of discovering secrets hidden in plain sight. It’s a global community for people who like to play real-time scavenger hunts in their own neighbourhoods. During the pandemic, this is mostly a “play at home” game.

Coding with Code-a-Pillar

Learn to code with Code-a-Pillar! Students will learn the basics of code as they explore the Code-a-Pillar app!

Required Materials:

Ages 4-10

Sam Sproule & Julia Rivard from Squiggle Park/Dreamscape

The educational game company Squiggle Park will be leading you through an interactive demonstration of their digital games where reading is gamified to engage any level of reader from preschool to grade 8.

Video Game Design

Why just play video games when you can make them? Join us as we go through the journey of a video game designer and learn how to design, create, and program your very own fully playable video game using Bloxels!

Required Materials:

Ages 4 – 10

HELMLife – Draw Like an Artist

Looking to try something new while at home? Join Anna from HELMLife as she highlights some activities that you can do from the comfort of your living room.

Required Materials:

  • Desktop computer/laptop or iPad/tablet with an internet connection
  • Pencils, paper, markers, erasers, and any other drawing materials of your choice

Onboarding Procedure:

Registration for this event closes at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 2. You will be sent an email for each session you have registered for by 3:00 pm that same day.

Please add info@stemminds.com to your approved senders list in order to ensure you receive all email communications. 

You are responsible for reviewing the onboarding email in detail and being prepared with all materials before the session start time. The sessions begin promptly at the listed start time. Due to time constraints, no students will be admitted to the session 10 minutes after the session start time.

Please review the session descriptions above for a full explanation of whether you will require a laptop/desktop computer or if an iPad/tablet can be used.

For ages 4-7, all children must be supervised by a parent/guardian for the duration of the session. For all sessions that involve the use of an app (e.g. coding, video game design, etc), you will need 2 devices in order to join the session; 1 device of any kind to view the instructor on and 1 tablet to use the app on. You will need to download the app prior to the start of the session. A phone is not recommended due to the small screen size.
